AMTOWER OFF-CENTER OBSERVATIONS

Item: My radio show will be moving to Friday afternoon at 2 PM this week. This weeks guests will be the lovely and talented Ardell Fleeson (my co-host of the week), John Kamensky (IBM Center for the Business of Government), Kristina Tanasichuk (GovSec), and Venkatapathi Puvvada (Unisys, and the inkling IAC President).

Item: This week is the annual OUTLOOK IT budget conference at the McLean Hilton. This was the first and is still the best! Go to www.FedSources.com to register. This is the only public event where you can see me speak this Spring, and I have written an entirely new presentation for the occasion.

Item: My friends at EMC alerted me to this, so it must be worthwhile: VMware is hosting the largest regional virtualization event of the year. This one-day event takes place on June 6 at the Ronald Reagan Center. With three tracks focusing on Secure Desktop, Data Center, and Testing and Development, the event will focus on how virtualization is helping the public sector with initiatives such as telework, disaster recovery, and test and development.  Expect to join over 500 of your peers for customer case studies, presentations, demonstrations, and interactive sessions all focused on virtualization and its powerful impact on your IT infrastructure. There is no charge for this event. See Events, below, for the link.

Item: The exclusion of Sprint from the Networx contract has led to lots of cyber-ink. Nick Wakeman and Chris Dorobek (WashTech and FCW respectively) have blogged about this and there will be more. It is odd that three of the big four won. You have to wonder why not four of four, and not risk the protest. Go figure

Not that I have an opinion.

THE GOOD, THE BAD, and THE UGLY: RADIO DAZE

As you may have noticed, more of my time is spent talking about radio, especially since my show moved from WBIS in Annapolis to WFED in Washington, D.C. One reason is that I obviously enjoy being on the radio – it is a fun way to get my views out.

Another reason is that I have guests who bring vast experience to the party. In the first few weeks of the show I have interviewed Ray Bjorklund (Washington Mgmt Group), Paul Miller (Miller/Wenhold), Michael Hardy (Washington Technology), Larry Allen (The Coalition for Government Procurement), Guy Timberlake (American Small Business Coalition),  Max Peterson (rumor has it soon to be re-employed!), Chris Dorobek (Federal Computer Week), Bill Gormley (Washington Management Group), Stan Soloway (Professional Services Council); David Powell (Federal Business Council), Joe Draham, Brian Roberts (CroixConnect), Bob Lohfeld (Lohfeld Consulting Group), Bill Howell (FOSE), Nick Wakeman (Washington Technology), John Kamensky (IBM Center for the Business of Government), Kristina Tanasichuk (GovSec), Ardell Fleeson,  and Venkatapathi Puvvada  (Unisys), as well as two small business owners -Al Lynden of Chuckals and John Barrett of Industrial Medium.

Talk about bandwidth!

We have been creating some great listening for anyone in the government market. And when the archives are up, tune into the March 19 show with me, Mad Max Peterson, Crazy Chris Dorobek, and Wild Bill Gormley. They were all in-studio for the whole show and it was fun and informative.

Tune in this Friday at 2 PM (Eastern) – live on WFED 1050 AM in Washington, or on the web at www.FederalNewsradio.com . Let me know what you think.

The events listed below are among those I think are worth your time, money and effort. Just because an event is not listed below does not imply it is not worth attending. If you want my opinion on a specific event or producer, call me. This topic is addressed more thoroughly in the members section at www.GovernmentMarketingBestPractices.com.
